Coulby Newham area guide


Coulby Newham began as farmland and this is reflected in the names of some of the roads such as Lingfield, Manor Farm Way, Paddock Wood. In the early 1970’s Coulby Newham became the continual southerly urban expansion of Middlesbrough which was enhanced after the construction of the A174 Parkway, (after which the suburb’s shopping mall, the Parkway Shopping Centre which opened in 1986, was subsequently named and is where our office is located).

Three primary schools serve Coulby Newham, Sunnyside Primary school, Rosewood Academy and St Augustine’s RC school.

The suburb also contains two churches, namely Coulby Newham Baptist Church and Roman Catholic Cathedral.

Coulby Newham remains a rapidly developing suburb of Middlesbrough, Tesco choosing to locate a new £2million store in the area in 2005. There are many new private housing developments in the suburb making Coulby Newham spread in the direction of Great Ayton and other villages close to the Hills.
